What Is That Blue Thing?

Someone asked me about the blue thing that Boris wears on his outings. Well, that blue thing is the "Lift-n-Aid" Mobility Harness made by Pet Zone. It runs about $20-25 for the large size in most places that I've seen. We happened to get ours at Petsmart, but they are also available in some dog supply catalogs.





Boris can't wear a regular collar anymore because he has disc disease in his neck and several years ago, his neurologist told us no more neck collars for leash walking and that we should always use a harness to protect his neck from further injury. A regular harness worked fine up until Boris had his front leg amputated. After that, the harness wouldn't stay properly in place without both front legs to keep the harness centered on his chest. So we checked all the pet stores and pet supply catalogs and found his blue "sling", as we affectionately call it. It gives me something to attach his leash to so we can go for walks. And it also helps me get Boris in and out of the DogMobile safely. He absolutely cannot be allowed to jump out of the car and bear all his weight down on that one remaining front leg. It's way too much stress on his neck and way too much stress on that leg.

So, for anyone with an older pet that needs assistance getting around on stairs and in and out of the car, or for a dog that's been through something like amputation surgery, this is a wonderful thing and I would heartily recommend it.

Now, we must be off to Boris' appointment with the neurologist.
