My dogs, of course!

There's A Saying....

"The more people I meet, the more I like my dog."

This afternoon when I let the dogs out into our backyard, there happened to be some kids out on the playground behind our house. The dogs usually bark if they hear noise, and the kids were definitely making a lot of noise. After the dogs started barking, four or five of those kids pressed their faces up to our fence and started barking at my dogs! The thing about this is that it's not an isolated incident. Ever since I can remember being out in public with Boris, a curious amount of people driving by or passing by or hanging out as we walked by would start barking. And the kids out around our house do it too. Grown ups, kids, it doesn't matter. WHY??! Why would you bark at someone else's dog?! That's just *so* weird! Some days, I just don't understand what's wrong with people.

Uhh, how else would you say hello in the dog's native tongue? :-)

Clearly you do not speak canid. "Hello" is more often referred to by humans as the "butt sniff". A bark is a sound of warning or "You're approaching something that's mine, go away!" That's almost like saying that hissing at a cat is a hello.

Cats blink to say hello, except when they enter a space already holding a cat, then they kind of trill. Dogs wag and turn a tad sideways to say hello to "the dogfather" archetype. For non-threatening strangers, they wag and bark, meaning "You may be ok, but this turf is MINE". Why people bark at dogs is because the people think it's funny -- like squirting a cat with a hose is "funny" -- or maybe they just like to hear the dog bark :-) Why do people moo at cows from their cars? HAHAHAHAHAHA MOOOOOOOoooooo
