Boris Update

Today was Boris' second pamidronate treatment. Wasn't sure if he'd even get the IV infusion today because he's been bothered by um, let's just say an "upset stomach" for the past couple of days. But his kidney values were fine, so he got his pamidronate today as scheduled. The doctor also wanted to do chest xrays today even though we were scheduled for those next week. I wasn't prepared for the xrays today, since they usually are a source of great worry for me in the days leading up to when we have them done, but fortunately, the news was good: Boris had no signs of lung metastasis and looks good overall.

The pamidronate treatment is a two hour IV infusion that requires Boris to be left at the hospital for awhile, so while he was there, I took Roxie out to probably every pet store in town while we waited for the call to pick Boris up. She had a blast and was especially interested in the giant smoked beef bones that happened to be displayed on a shelf right at her level. That's such a dirty sales tactic to put the tempting goodies right at eye/nose level to a dog. She also came face to face with a cat lounging on a shelf in one of the stores. This was the first time that she's ever been that close to a cat and she was definitely interested! I'm pretty sure she would have accosted the cat if given the opportunity. Fortunately, the cat didn't really care about her and barely opened an eye to peep at her before getting back to the business of sleeping. She also was fascinated by some of the birds and the ferrets at the stores. I'm pretty sure cats, birds, and ferrets would be like live squeaky toys for her, so we won't be having any of those in our house. Not that I'm disappointed by that!

So the dogs had a very eventful day, each in their own way, and slept for hours when we got home. Boris was so tired that he didn't even mind when Roxie curled up next to him on the couch. I'm just so very grateful that Boris is doing ok, almost a year to the day after being diagnosed with bone cancer. He's been doing as well as we had hoped for and we're definitely blessed each day that he's here.
